Sacred Art
In 2011, Marie-Denise Douyon participated in a Sacred Art exhibition at the Fraternity of Jerusalem in Montreal. In this exhibition, Douyon present a series where she imagines the Genesis from recovered pieces of computer circuit. At the beginning, she tells us: there was an initial click, and that first click spawned everything. In the playground of creation, a cheerful god rides a horsey antelope while creating by blowing into a blowpipe.
Marie-Denise Douyon , in collaboration with the photographer Radu Juster, created a series inspired by iconographies of black virgins. Mixing photography to the painting, the artist renders elegant African Madonnas on a white background; Their works become an apology of the sacred, of black beauty, of motherhood, of the wonders of procreation and the fragility of the being.
